The only available primary productivity satellite product from NOAA was delevoped by the CoastWatch West Coast Node in 2007. The product is based on the vertically generalized production model descibed by Behrenfeld and Falkowski (1997) using satellite data from the MODIS sensor on the Aqua satellite.
The MODIS Aqua sensor will be decommisioned soon. New primary productivity algorithms that use the latest satellite sensors are under development, but are unlikely to be in production before MODIS Aqua is retired. Therefore, an interim product is required to address the needs of users for primary productivity data during the gap between the loss of the legacy MODIS primary productivity and the availablity of the new generation primary productivity products
Algorithm and Data.
This section provides descriptions of the net primary productivity algorithm and source data used for the interim product. Links to the results and source data are also provided.
Statistical Analysis.
As series of statistical analyses were applied to the interim primary productivity data to determine how closely if tracks the legacy MODIS-based product. The results of the analyses are presented in this section.
Additional Resources.
Each user will have specific regions where they will apply the intermin product. In this secion we provide access to a series of Python (Jupyter) notebooks to help users determine how the switch to the intermin product will impact their applications.
