Short Description:
NOAA CoastWatch provides (mask-applied) global, 11km, Level 3, Standard Mapped Image (SMI), 4km, daytime SST data from NASA's Aqua Spacecraft as 1-day, 8-day, and monthly composites. Measurements are gathered by the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) carried aboard the spacecraft. This is Science Quality data from a reprocessing version dated August 2015.
Files downloaded daily from https://oceandata.sci.gsfc.nasa.gov/MODIS-Aqua/L3SMI to NOAA SWFSC ERD (erd.data@noaa.gov). ERD applies the quality mask (https://oceancolor.gsfc.nasa.gov/DOCS/Ocean_Level-3_SMI_Products.pdf), leaving only highest quality values, and generates new files. ERD uses .ncml to add a time dimension.
