attribute | NC_GLOBAL | abstract | String | This record represents the explosions detected from raw passive acoustic data. All acoustic data were processed using Triton's Explosion Detector, which is based on a cross-correlation of the recording with a template explosion. The detector divides the recording into sequentially analyzed sections of 75 s. The detector outputs are a series of .mat files that can be evaluated using GPLReview. The original wav file was decimated to a sample rate of 12 kHz, a requirement of the algorithm. The default parameters work well for most explosive sounds. These data were recorded at SanctSound Site CI04_05 between June 04, 2020 and October 22, 2020. |

attribute | NC_GLOBAL | history | String | All acoustic data were processed using the Explosion Detector within Triton. The detector is based on a cross-correlation of the recording with a template explosion. The detector divides the recording into sections of 75 s, which are analyzed sequentially. The output of the detector is a series of .mat files, that can be read into GPLReview to evaluate. The detector needs audio files with a sample rate of 12 kHz, so decimation of the original wav file (possible in Triton) is required if the sample rate is higher. The default settings of the parameters generally work well for most explosive sounds. The following parameters are used by the Explosion Detector: Threshold Offset: Offset that is added to the median square of correlation coefficient to calculate the threshold. Minimum Time Distance (s): minimum time distance between consecutive explosions. Noise Samples: number of noise samples before and after the signal to be pulled out. RMS Noise Before Signal (dB): Threshold for the minimum difference in root-mean-square sound pressure level between the signal and the time before the detection. RMS Noise After Signal (dB): Threshold for the minimum difference in root-mean-square sound pressure level between the signal and the time after the detection. PP Noise Before Signal (dB): Threshold for the minimum difference in peak-to-peak sound pressure level between the signal and the time before the detection. PP Noise After Signal (dB): Threshold for the minimum difference in peak-to-peak sound pressure level between the signal and the time after the detection. Maximum Explosion Duration (s). Minimum Explosion Duration (s). Data were processed with Triton - Soundscape Metrics Remora (Github commit '44f0f20'; Feb 9, 2020) and Matlab (2016b and newer; statistics toolbox). |

attribute | NC_GLOBAL | summary | String | NOAA and the U.S. Navy are working to better understand underwater sound within the U.S. National Marine Sanctuary System. From 2018 to 2021, these agencies will work with numerous scientific partners to study sound within seven national marine sanctuaries and one marine national monument, which includes waters off Hawai'i and the east and west coasts. Standardized measurements will assess sounds produced by marine animals, physical processes (e.g., wind and waves), and human activities. Collectively, this information will help NOAA and the Navy measure sound levels and baseline acoustic conditions in sanctuaries. This work is a continuation of ongoing Navy and NOAA research, including efforts by NOAA's Office of National Marine Sanctuaries This dataset represents the derived products from the raw acoustic data that are archived at NOAA National Centers for Environmental Information. |
