BB SPLs were calculated by integration of sound pressure spectral density estimates of the mean-square pressure with a 1 Hz/1 second resolution over the frequency band of 20 to 24,000 Hz. The result is then calculated per hour as a median over no less than 1,800 1-second values for that hour and converted to decibels (dB re 1 µPa). These data were recorded at SanctSound Site GR03_03 between October 17, 2019 and December 02, 2019. These data are available to the public for a wide variety of uses including scientific research and analysis. This project received funding from the U.S. Navy. completed NOAA National Centers for Environmental Information ncei.info@noaa.gov https://www.ncei.noaa.gov/contact NCEI Contact Information Information for contacts at NCEI. information pointOfContact Carrie Wall NOAA National Centers for Environmental Information NCEI Passive Acoustic Archive Lead pad.info@noaa.gov pointOfContact asNeeded https://www.ngdc.noaa.gov/mgg/pad/SanctSound/20181009-sound-monitoring-locations-1000.jpg Monitoring locations for the SanctSound project. NOAA-Navy Sanctuary Soundscapes Monitoring Project (SanctSound) Office of National Marine Sanctuaries sponsor U.S. Navy sponsor https://sanctuaries.noaa.gov/science/monitoring/sound/ Sound Monitoring NOAA and the U.S. Navy are working to better understand underwater sound within the U.S. National Marine Sanctuary System. From 2018 to 2021, these agencies will work with numerous scientific partners to study sound within seven national marine sanctuaries and one marine national monument, which includes waters off Hawai'i and the east and west coasts. Standardized measurements will assess sounds produced by marine animals, physical processes (e.g., wind and waves), and human activities. Collectively, this information will help NOAA and the Navy measure sound levels and baseline acoustic conditions in sanctuaries. This work is a continuation of ongoing Navy and NOAA research, including efforts by NOAA's Office of National Marine Sanctuaries This dataset represents the derived products from the raw acoustic data that are archived at NOAA National Centers for Environmental Information. information largerWorkCitation project eng; USA biota oceans Site GR03_03 -80.8949 -80.8949 31.367517 31.367517 2019-10-17T19:00:00Z 2019-12-02T23:00:00Z Passive acoustic data physicalMeasurement timestamp string Timestamp in ISO 8601 date format sound pressure level double Broadband Sound Pressure Levels acoustic double Broadband (BB) sound pressure levels (SPLs) were calculated by integration of sound pressure spectral density estimates of the mean-square pressure with a 1 Hz/1 second resolution over the frequency band of 20 to 24,000 Hz. All data were collected with standardized and calibrated acoustic recording equipment. Data quality was assessed through visual analysis and examination of acoustic levels over time across all frequencies. Broadband (BB) sound pressure levels (SPLs) in units of µPa^2 were calculated by integration of sound pressure spectral density (PSD) estimates of the mean-square pressure (µPa^2) with a 1 Hertz (Hz)/1 second resolution over the frequency band of 20 to 24,000 Hz. The resulting BB SPLs with the 1 second resolution were then used to calculate BB SPLs per hour as a median over no less than 1,800 1-second values for that hour. The BB SPLs per hour were converted to decibels (dB re 1 µPa).
